The US Bureau of Ocean Energy Management seeks public comment as it prepares an environmental assessment for commercial offshore wind development off South Carolina.
Input will be used to determine significant issues and alternatives to be analyzed in the EA, which will consider the environmental and socioeconomic impacts of commercial wind leases and site assessment activities in the lease areas.
The bureau has scheduled public information meetings on 5, 6 and 7 January. A 60-day comment period ends 25 January.
BOEM in November issued a call for nominations to gauge the offshore wind industry’s interest in buying commercial wind leases for four call areas totaling more than 1100 square miles on the outer continental shelf off South Carolina.
The agency expects to hold a commercial lease auction for three sites off North Carolina later this year and planning is underway for federal waters off New York State.
