A new crane boom for Swire Blue Ocean jack-up Pacific Osprey has arrived in the Danish port of Esbjerg where it will be installed on the vessel.
Swire said the new component will be installed on the Osprey, which is in the same port, as soon as weather conditions allow.
The boom was made by National Oilwell Varco at facilities in China and sailed for Denmark last month. Once installed it will raise the hook height of the Osprey’s 1200-tonne crane by 35 metres to a maximum of 137 metres.
The upgrade will allow the jack-up to install next generation turbines, including the 140 Siemens Gamesa 11MW units it will fit at Vattenfall’s 1.5GW Hollandse Kust 1-4 development off the Netherlands from 2022.
The vessel is due to return to service with its beefed-up crane from March 1.
