Trianel’s 200MW Borkum offshore wind farm in the German North Sea has generated 452GWh in its first six months of full commercial operation.
The developer said today that the €1bn project featuring 40 Areva M5000-116 turbines is “developing very positively” after a “difficult construction and commissioning phase”.
The project, which was commissioned in September 2015, was delayed due to problems completing the grid connection supplied by TenneT.
Borkum’s best month came in January with a 95.12GWh output. The wind farm’s turbines have achieved a 90% availability rate during the first six months.
Trianel’s forecasts for the current business year anticipate that the wind farm will considerably exceed 4,000 full-capacity hours.Trianel’s managing director Klaus Horstick said: “With the Trianel Windpark Borkum, the municipal utilities have taken the plunge and gone offshore, thus investing in a valuable project.
“From the start of construction until the commissioning of this new technology, a great deal was demanded of the shareholders; as it turns out, their perseverance was worth it.”
A final investment decision on 200MW phase 2 will be taken by Trianel and co-developer EWE next year. EWE currently holds a 40% share in the project development.
