Marine contractors GeoSea and Van Oord have won a pair of plum contracts to work on Orsted’s 752MW Borssele 1&2 wind farm off the Netherlands.
The DEME Group unit will undertake transport and installation of 94 monopile foundations and all Siemens Gamesa 8MW turbines for the project.
GeoSea’s scope includes scour protection supply and installation in waters ranging from 14 to 36 metres.
GeoSea A2Sea will provide a jack-up to tackle installation of turbines.
Van Oord meanwhile will install array cables totalling 167km for the project located 23km off Zeeland.
Cable-lay vessel Nexus and trencher Dig-it will put the lines in at a target depth of two metres.
Borssele engineering, procurement and construction director Henrik Egholm said the deals are a “key step” for the project.
“We are well on schedule with the preparation of offshore construction in 2020 which will now go into a more detailed planning phase with our contractors,” he added.
Orsted general manager for western Europe Steven Engels said the Danish outfit is “satisfied” it can build the project with a “combination of regional, national and international companies”.
GeoSea renewables business unit manager Jan Klaassen added: “We are pleased that Orsted has selected GeoSea for the largest offshore wind farm project in the Netherlands.
“The contract award demonstrates our leading position as a provider of state-of-the-art, integrated solutions for the offshore wind industry. We look forward to working with Ørsted and to leverage our joint expertise in order to successfully deliver this project.”
Van Oord offshore wind managing director Arnoud Kuis said the company is “proud” to be part of what is a “prominent project”.
“We are excited to have been awarded this project by Ørsted. Projects like Borssele 1+2 are essential in meeting the rising global demand for energy and in making offshore wind more competitive as sustainable energy.”
Borssele 1&2 is due online by 2021.
