Boskalis has confirmed a contract for the transport and installation of five turbines at the 48MW second phase of the Kincardine floating offshore wind farm off the coast of Aberdeen in Scotland.
The deal with Cobra Wind International will be the first time that Boskalis has worked on a floating offshore wind farm.
The MHI Vestas turbines, each with a capacity of 9.525MW, will be anchored at a depth of 60 to 80 metres.
Boskalis said the heavy anchor handling tug BOKA Falcon (pictured) will start installing the anchors and chains on the seabed this month.
In the meantime, the floating foundations will be transported from Ferrol in Spain to Rotterdam, for which Boskalis will deploy the Fjord as a semi-submersible barge.
In Rotterdam, the turbines will be mounted on the foundations, after which the floating units will be towed to the wind farm site 15km off the coast.
In addition to the BOKA Falcon and Fjord, three Boskalis heavy anchor handling tugs will be deployed on the project.
A first 2MW stage has already been installed featuring a single Vestas V80-2.0MW turbine.
