UK energy giant BP is planning to bid for offshore wind project rights in the ScotWind leasing round in Scotland, as well as elsewhere in the world, according to a report in The Times newspaper.
The report quoted the company’s chief executive Bernard Looney as saying BP was looking at bidding in the upcoming Crown Estate Scotland auction.
The Times said that it understands that BP is working on jointly bidding with EnBW.
In February, the two companies were successful in bidding for two 1.5GW offshore wind sites in the Irish Sea in the UK’s Round 4 leasing process.
The deadline for ScotWind bids is 16 July.
An EnBW spokesperson said: “We are very pleased with the two offshore projects we have won in Great Britain and with the partnership with BP.
“So it only makes sense to look at other markets together.
“We are currently exploring a joint application in the next leasing round in Scotland.”
A BP spokesperson said the story accurately quoted Looney from comments he made during a call alongside the company’s results announcement last week.
