Germany’s parliament the Bundestag has agreed an amendment to the country’s Offshore Wind Energy Act setting a 20GW target for 2030 and 40GW by 2040.
Federal Minister of Economics Peter Altmaier (pictured) said: “With the target increase for offshore wind turbines, it is clear that Germany will remain a leading market for offshore wind energy.

“With clear long-term goals, we provide planning and investment security.”
The ministry said that a corresponding increase in the number of staff in all affected authorities is also planned.
The law also creates a regulation that enables certain projects to apply for the cost of investigations to be covered.
