Dong Energy has generated electricity for the first time from its 258MW Burbo Bank 2 offshore wind farm in Liverpool Bay.
The Danish company said the energisation of the initial MHI Vestas 8MW turbines is an “important step in the project”.
All 32 turbines are expected to be in place by the first quarter of 2017, it added.
The project is a joint partnership between Dong (50%), PKA (25%) and Kirkbi (25%).
Burbo Bank 2 programme director Claus Bøjle Møller said: “First power is a key milestone for us because it proves that every part of the transmission and generation equipment is successfully working.
“We’re progressing well with the construction of the wind farm.”
Dong added that work is also underway on the operations and mainentance facility in King’s Wharf, Seacombe to serve the two Dong wind farms in the area.
Up to 75 jobs are being created during construction and around 45 people will be employed at the site when it is operational in the second half of next year.
