An investigation is underway after an export cable failure at Principle Power’s 2MW floating wind demo off the coast of Portugal.
Companhia de Energia Oceânica, which operates the grid wire, reported the cable failure in late January.
The wire connects the WindFloat 1 project, which features a Vestas 2MW offshore turbine, to the Portuguese grid.
The project has been offline since the discovery. The fault occurred on the static part of the cable and was uncovered during planned maintenance.
The wire has been in place for over 20 years and has been used for a number of trials, including AWS and Pelamis hardware.
A spokesman for Principle Power said the company’s hardware is not affected.
