The electrical substation of the 448MW Calvados offshore wind farm has left the port of Saint-Nazaire to journey to Cherbourg ahead of installation.
Its installation at sea, subject to weather conditions, is scheduled for the end of March.
The preparatory work at sea carried out last spring allowed the installation of the 4 underwater piles that will host the foundation of the park’s electrical substation.
The construction of the Calvados offshore wind farm substation has mobilized more than 450 people in the Pays de la Loire over the past two years.
This project benefits from the feedback obtained following the latest works carried out for the Saint-Nazaire and Fécamp offshore wind farm.
The construction of the electrical substation contributes to the continuity of Chantiers de l’Atlantique’s activity in the marine renewable energy sector.
Weighing 2,100 tonnes, 41 metres long, 29 metres wide and 17 metres high, the electrical substation will centralise the electricity produced by the 64 wind turbines and transform it to send it ashore to the substation located in Ranville.
