Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) has signed a deal for floating wind structures with HSG Sungdong for its 1500MW Haewoori offshore wind project in South Korea.
The non-binding memorandum of understanding (MoU) lays out a partnership between the two companies to explore opportunities to optimise the fabrication of floating foundations to reduce the cost of floating offshore wind in Korea.
Haewoori Offshore Wind Power Co chief executive Jonathan Spink said: “I believe that the creation of value through partnerships with local companies is an important factor in making the offshore wind power business successful in the Haewoori offshore wind power project being promoted by CIP.
“We hope that the business agreement between the two companies will not only serve as an opportunity to find an optimised floating substructure method, but also an opportunity to contribute to reducing the cost of floating offshore wind power in Korea.”
