Construction begins on PGE offshore wind base

PGE Group has officially broken ground on its new operations and maintenance base in the port of Ustka, Poland, which will support the 1.5GW Baltica 2 offshore wind farm co-developed with Ørsted.

The Ustka facility is scheduled to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2026 and will serve as the primary service base for Baltica 2, which is due online in 2027.

Located on a 2.3-hectare site previously occupied by a fish processing plant, the base will include an administrative building, warehouse, quay, and green areas. Crew transfer vessels will operate from the port to support both construction and long-term operations.

PGE vice president Przemysław Jastrzębski said the investment would not only ensure efficient operation of offshore wind farms but also create jobs and revitalise the port of Ustka.

“This investment will provide a development impulse for the entire Pomerania region,” he said.

PGE Baltica CEO Bartosz Fedurek added that over 30 Polish companies have already contributed to the project, with more expected to join the supply chain during construction and operation.

The project is being delivered by DORACO Construction Corporation, with engineering support from Sweco Polska. DORACO vice president Radosław Jarosiewicz said the contract would strengthen Poland’s offshore wind capabilities and local content.

“Our work will form the foundation for the further development of the offshore sector in Poland and will contribute to the energy transformation process in our country,” he said.

Once complete, the Ustka base will support construction teams during the build-out of Baltica 2 and serve as a permanent O&M hub for the Baltic Sea wind sector.
