Scotland’s First Minister Nicola Sturgeon will announce plans to publish a roadmap outlining future offshore wind leasing opportunities.
Sturgeon will speak about the roadmap at an Offshore Wind Business Breakfast at COP26 Energy Day, today.
The roadmap will be published once the outcome of the first ScotWind leasing round has been announced in January 2022.
Net Zero and Energy Secretary Michael Matheson will co-chair an Offshore Wind Roundtable event with Sir Jim McDonald, who led a Scottish Government-commissioned strategic investment assessment of the sector in the summer, to discuss plans for a 10-fold increase in installed offshore wind capacity by 2030.
The Scottish Government’s Offshore Wind Policy Statement, published last year, sets out a vision for an additional 11GW of offshore wind to be installed within 10 years.
A consultation on plans to more than double the country’s onshore wind capacity by 2030 was launched last week.
Matheson said: “The world needs bold action to tackle the climate emergency. By acting now, we can set Scotland on a pathway to meeting our climate change targets in a way that supports a just transition and delivers a greener, fairer future for everyone.
