Two offshore wind fabrication jobs on the books at Sembcorp Marine in Singapore have escaped any Covid-19 impacts, despite national authorities tightening lockdown measures in response to a second wave of the virus.
Manufacturing of jackets by the company for the 376MW Formosa 2 offshore wind farm in Taiwan is ongoing, according to a spokeswoman for lead foundations contractor Jan De Nul.
Sembcorp is supplying 15 foundations for the project with deliveries due in December 2020.
“Jacket fabrication is continuing and measures are put in place to best manage the impact of Covid-19 and employees’ health and safety,” she said.
The company is also supplying two offshore substation topsides to Orsted for the 1.4GW Hornsea 2 off east England under an EPCI scope.
A spokesperson for the project said: “In Asia, Hornsea 2’s construction schedule for the offshore substations is continuing as planned, and we remain focused on bringing the project into commercial operations in 2022.”
Sembcorp declined to comment.
Earlier this week, authorities in Singapore extended lockdown restrictions to 1 June after the number of Covid-19 cases exceeded 9000.
The country, seen as one of a handful to have mitigated the spread of the virus, took the decision after reporting 3000 positive tests in recent days.
New rules have also been introduced to restrict the number of essential workers.
