Danish consultancy Cowi is designing the foundations for Taiwan’s 130MW Formosa I offshore wind farm.
The contract will be the first time the company has designed foundations for an offshore wind farm in an earthquake zone.
Cowi said it has already completed the design of two foundations, which will serve as prototypes for the other 30 structures.
Construction of the wind farm will be carried out by Formosa Wind Power Company, with Cowi acting as consultant to Sinotech Engineering Consultants.
The wind farm is scheduled to be complete in 2019.
Project manager of the Taiwan offshore wind farm project Martin Moller said: “Naturally, the risk of earthquake and typhoons places further demands on the durability of the foundations.
“Consequently, we’re relying on a wide range of Cowi experts who understand the implications of construction work in earthquake regions.”
