CWHI has shipped out the first eight XXL monopiles for ESB and Red Rock Renewables’ 1100MW Inch Cape offshore wind farm.
Fabricated at the Chinese company’s Qinzhou Yard, the monopiles were shipped aboard the COSCO vessel Xian Taikou (pictured). They are now en route to Forth Ports Leith, Scotland.
Located 15km off the Angus Coast, Inch Cape will become one of Scotland’s largest offshore wind projects.
With a planned capacity of 1.1GW, it will generate renewable electricity equivalent to powering more than half the homes in the country and contributing significantly to the UK’s net-zero targets.
CWHI is tasked with the delivery of 32 XXL monopiles and 30 transition pieces for the project.
Each monopile measures up to 11.5 metres in diameter, 101.3 metres in length, and weighs as much as 2300 tonnes.
CWHI chief development officer Dale Young said: “The first shipment of Inch Cape monopiles is a proud achievement for our teams and partners.
“It reflects not only our technical capabilities but also our dedication to building a sustainable future.
“We look forward to delivering the remaining monopiles with the same commitment to excellence, safety, and quality.”
