Danish officials are seeking finance from the European Investment Bank to help fund construction of the 600MW Kriegers Flak offshore wind farm in the Baltic Sea.
The Danish Energy Authority has applied for an undisclosed amount of financial support for the project, which is currently the subject of an ongoing tender for development rights.
Kriegers will be located some 15km off the Danish coast and is due online end-2021. Government recently introduced plans to limit bids due in November to 80 ore per kilowatt-hour.
Six groups are in the running to build the wind farm, with one prequalified bidder having dropped out of the running.
It is unclear if the funding sought will be transferred automatically to the eventual developer of the Kriegers wind farm or used to offset support payments.
“The project will further contribute to the bank’s priority objectives for energy-sector lending related to renewable energy sources and climate action,” said EIB.
