Floating Power Plant is to deploy a commercial-scale floating wind and wave energy hybrid platform at the Plocan test site off Spain’s Canary Islands.
The Denmark-based company said the formal approval of its application includes grid connection and associated sale of the generated electricity.
“We look very much forward to working with Plocan to deploy the world’s first multi megawatt wind and wave hybrid,” the company said.
“We can now push forward and deploy the first commercial scale device in the test site.”
The P80 device is a floating semi-submersible platform that will host a single 5-8MW wind turbine and 2-3.6MW of wave power.
The platform is anchored by using a standard turret mooring technology that has been proven, and is still used, by the oil and gas industry.
It uses a disconnectable turret mooring system with slack – catenar – anchor chains.
