Toda Corporation has pushed back startup at its 17MW Goto City floating offshore wind farm by two years due to the discovery of defects in the project’s floating structures.
The company’s subsidiary Goto Floating Wind Farm has revised the initial project schedule date of January 2024, pushing startup back to January 2026.
An application was filed to revise the site’s public occupancy plan, rescheduling its operational date and has been approved by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism.
Toda Corporation has since investigated the causes of the defects and considered countermeasures, and has taken corrective measures in the two floating structures and restarted construction work at the onshore yard.
Additionally, the company will conduct inspections of a platform already installed offshore to verify the existence of defects.
One of the three floating structures installed off the coast of Sakiyama will be landed on the yard in Fukue Port where its integrity will be verified, after which a decision will be made on the handling of the remaining two pieces.
The company recorded the costs associated with correcting the defects as a loss for the fiscal year ending 31 March, 2023.
