DNV GL to certify MySE11-203

MingYang Smart Energy has signed an agreement with worldwide leading certification body DNV GL to conduct type certification for its new MySE11-203 offshore wind turbine.

MingYang’s recently announced product has a rated power of 11MW and a rotor diameter of 203-metres.

MingYang said that with its hybrid drive chain, MySE11-203 features the “high-reliability gene” from the aerospace industry offering huge potential for cost reduction in offshore wind as well.

A virtual signing ceremony took place on 28 September 2020, attended by Qiying Zhang, Executive President of MingYang, Kim Mørk, Executive Vice President of Renewables Certification of DNV GL, and other representatives from the two sides.

“With the success in MySE5.5MW turbines in Xinghua Bay offshore wind project in terms of high availability and energy production, the advantage of hybrid drive and super-compact design of MySE platform has been proved, which also forms the foundation of the MySE11-203.

“The MySE11-203 turbine is designed for the challenging and harsh offshore environment.

“Partnering with DNV GL, the world-leading certification body, the cooperation between MingYang and DNV GL enters into a new stage for a long-term relationship, and highlights MingYang’s commitment to maintaining the highest quality and performance standards for our offshore wind turbines,” said MingYang executive president Qiying Zhang.

MingYang added that the turbine was its strategic product aiming for the European and other international markets, and that its small size and lightweight nature made it a good fit for both fixed bottom and floating offshore wind.

DNV GL renewables certification executive vice president Kim Mørk added that it predicted offshore wind will generate almost 9% of electricity globally by 2050, compared with 0.3% today, adding: “One important enabler of this trend are larger turbines and the entrance of floating wind”.

“With its new 11MW turbine, MingYang will pave the way for participating in the fast growing offshore wind market with a turbine which is certified to the highest international safety and performance standards.”
