Dong Energy and Macquarie have acquired 85% of the 128MW Formosa 1 offshore wind farm in Taiwan from local developer Swancor.
The Danish company will take a 35% stake while Macquarie will secure 50% of the wind farm, where the first 8MW demonstrator phase went live last year.
Swancor will continue to lead the commercial phase of the project through completion, advised by Dong. The 120MW second phase will be built in 2019 pending a final investment decision.
Formosa 1 is located around 3km off the coast of Miaoli in northwest Taiwan. The first phase features twin Siemens 4MW machines.
Dong Wind Power chief executive Samuel Leupold said: “The agreement demonstrates our commitment to the Taiwanese market and to the government’s offshore wind plans. We look forward to engaging in Formosa I and accelerating Taiwan’s first commercial-scale offshore wind project.”
