Dong Energy will invest £6bn in the Humber region in north-east England between 2013 and 2019.
The details have been revealed in a new report by Regeneris Consulting that analyses the impact of Dong’s investments in the area in the six-year period.
The report claims that between 2015 and 2020, Dong Energy will support an average of 1,600 construction jobs per year in the Humber and up to 500 long-term jobs could be created by Dong’s operations and maintenance activity from 2020.
It expects that once Dong’s offshore wind farms future projects become fully operational they will meet the needs of over 1.5m homes and that a potential of £1.2bn of monetary value could be added to the region as a result of Dong’s business activities and investments in the region.
Dong’s UK chairman Brent Cheshire said: “Our £6 billion of investment in the Humber by 2019 is creating long-term high-skills jobs, supporting a thriving UK supply chain and helping the region continue as a hub for the UK’s renewable energy sector.
“Along with other offshore wind companies, we are making a major contribution to the development of the Northern Powerhouse, building strong local economies for years to come.”
Humber Local Enterprise Partnership chairman Lord Haskins said: “I welcome this report, which shows the impact of DONG Energy’s investments on the Humber. The report is a further demonstration of how investment in the offshore wind sector can have a positive effect on local communities and the economy.”
