The drivetrain for Adwen’s next generation 8MW turbine is to undergo validation testing by Sentient Science as part of the hardware’s planned evaluation process.
Adwen, a 50:50 joint venture between Areva and Gamesa, said the turbine faced an “exhaustive evaluation” phase which also included internal validation and tests at IWES.
As part of the testing, Sentient said that under the terms of the agreement it will use its DigitalClone software to validate the drivetrain’s design and standards.
Sentient said the software creates thousands of gearbox validation test points at a fraction of the cost of physical tests, which allows “massive amounts of testing points and insights to be evaluated before physical testing begins”.
Adwen chief technology officer Maite Basurto said: “A front-end to our physical testing process with the newest computational test technology matches with our rigorous test and validation process, always with the final aim of increasing the reliability of the turbine.”
