OOS International Group has signed a memorandum of understanding with China Merchants Industry Holdings to design and construct a new crane vessel, which the Dutch company says will be the largest in the world.
The 225-metre OOS Zeelandia will have two cranes 112 metres apart with a lifting capacity of 12,000 tonnes.
It will also have a large deck space for positioning and transporting heavy structures and accommodation for 420 people.
The vessel, which will have a width of 117 metres, will be able to reach speeds of up to 15.4 knots, OOS International said.
No details were revealed on when the vessel will be completed.
China Merchants Industry Holdings is also building two other crane vessels for OOS that will be delivered in 2019.
The OOS Serooskerke and OOS Walcheren will be equipped with two Huisman cranes with a total lift capacity of 4400 tonnes.
