Dutch pension fund ABP has created the Noordzeker partnership to invest in large-scale wind energy in the North Sea.
The group will use the fund to tender for major projects to build wind farms in the North Sea.
In addition, it identified IJmuiden Ver as the first offshore wind farm that Noordzeker will tender.
Located about 60km off the coast at IJmuiden and about 200sq km in size, the Dutch government will start registration at the end of 2023. It is expected that it will be clear to whom the project will be awarded in the first half of 2024.
Harmen van Wijnen, chairman of the board of ABP, said: “By investing in wind energy in the North Sea, we want to contribute to sufficient and sustainably generated energy for everyone in the Netherlands. Now and soon.
“We now see how important it is that we generate more ‘own’ energy in the Netherlands. That makes us less dependent on other countries, but it also gives us more influence on the costs of energy, which currently affect so many Dutch households.”
