The incoming Netherlands government has vowed to introduce a Contracts for Difference scheme to power towards 40GW of offshore wind by 2040.
The new minority government has outlined a series of priorities in a coalition agreement including the commitment to invest in clean, domestic energy including offshore wind.
“For clean, domestic energy, we continue to invest in offshore wind through Contracts for Difference for 40 GW. In addition, we are ensuring good coordination between electricity supply and demand in industry and better interconnection with other countries,” the coalition, led by Rob Jetten (pictured) of the liberal D66 party, said.
It is also looking at creating a Grid Congestion Act to “accelerate permit procedures and to intervene if construction/installation stagnates.”
The Dutch parliament is expected to discuss the coalition agreement this week.
The rollout of offshore wind in the Netherlands has been hit by a lack of state subsidies. This included the failure of the 1GW Nederwiek 1-A offshore wind site tender last year, which received no bids.
A tender, including a state subsidy, for the 1GW IJmuiden Ver Gamma-A offshore wind is set for this September.
