J Murphy & Sons is the onshore cable civils works contractor for ScottishPower Renewables’ 714MW East Anglia 1 offshore wind farm off the coast of Suffolk in the UK.
Murphy said the work will include trench excavation, duct installation, reinstatement and proving of joint bay locations and connections to HDDs.
The onshore cable route will start on the coast at Bawdsey and run 37km to the onshore substation at Bramford, near Ipswich.
The work will start in early October and is expected to be finished at the end of summer next year, Murphy said.
EA1 project director at SPR Charlie Jordan said construction of the substation at Bramford is already underway, with the wind farm scheduled to be operational in 2020.
Murphy project director Vince Bowler said: “This is a great win for Murphy, and follows on from our previous successful experiences of working with ScottishPower and also recently with Dong Energy on their wind farms at Walney and Hornsea.”
“We’ve learnt a lot from those schemes and are looking forward to increasing our productivity on site through improved processes and innovation.”
