EDF, Skyborn inaugurate Calvados O&M base

Eleanore RobinsonBy Eleanore RobinsonApril 12, 20232 Mins Read
Calvados kicks off O&M base work

The O&M base of the Calvados offshore wind farm has been inaugurated, a major milestone between now and the commissioning of the wind farm scheduled for 2025.

Located in Ouistreham, France, the base (pictured) is the control centre of the 448MW offshore wind farm, a JV between EDF Renewables and Skyborn.

It will ensure 24 hours a day, from land, the supervision of the park, from the construction phase.

During the construction phase and in the operation phase, a team will coordinate in real time the marine activities of the wind farm and authorize interventions and access to the farm.

It will also ensure, from the base, security and real-time monitoring of the layout of vessels. It will also monitor the certification of personnel and vessels.

During the operational phase, the base staff will carry out various missions such as preventive and curative maintenance, monitoring and optimization of the park’s production, meteorological monitoring, intervention planning and monitoring of access to the park.

By 2025, a hundred permanent jobs are expected to be created to ensure the operation and maintenance of the fleet (maintenance technicians, supervisory technicians, operations manager, logisticians, HQSE technicians, assistant, maritime coordinator, HSE manager, etc.).

Local recruitment started in early 2023 and will end in 2025.

The base’s installation was made possible thanks to the development of the outer port carried out by Ports de Normandie.

The ceremony was also an opportunity to reveal the work carried out to keep alive the memory of the Normandy landings of 1944 in accordance with the commitment made during the consultations with the territory.
