EnBW commits to Hohe See

Developer EnBW has given the go ahead to build the 497MW Hohe See offshore wind farm in the German North Sea.

Canadian outfit Enbridge has acquired a 49.9% stake in the €1.8bn project and the two companies will cooperate during the construction, with EnBW set to operate the wind farm.

Enbridge also has an option to buy a stake in EnBW’s 112MW Albatros wind farm, which has an investment decision pending, the German company said.

EnBW reached a deal with Siemens last year over the supply and installation of 71 SWT-7.0-154 turbines and monopile foundations for the project, which will be located some 90km North of the island of Borkum.

The order combines the supply and installation of both foundations and turbines in one contract, the first such deal in the German offshore market, EnBW said.

DEME Group’s offshore marine engineering division GeoSea has been tapped by Siemens to supply foundations, while Fred Olsen Windcarrier will transport and install the turbines.

VBMS has secured an €80m inter-array cabling contract for the project. The contract covers supply, installation, burial, termination and testing of the cables.

The work is scheduled for 2018 and 2019, VBMS said.

The Cofely Fabricom, lemants and CG consortium has won a contract to build and install the offshore substation.

Hohe See, which is currently the biggest offshore wind farm planned in Germany, is scheduled to be fully commissioned in 2019.
