Dutch energy company Eneco has agreed a deal to purchase the electricity generated by Otary’s 487MW Seamade offshore wind farm off Belgium, which is expected to achieve first power in 2020.
The Seamade project off the coast of Zeebrugge is the result of the merged offshore wind farms Seastar and Mermaid.
A €1.3bn financing package for the wind farm was finalised last week.
Eneco chief strategic officer Kees-Jan Rameau said: “We aim for growth with respect to customers, sustainable energy and smart energy services.
“These areas are strongly interrelated. For example, as a result of the acquisition of Eni last year, we welcomed a large number of new customers in Belgium.”
He added: “I am proud that, in time, this long-term agreement will allow us to supply them with green power that is completely generated locally.”
Seamade will feature 58 Siemens Gamesa 8.4MW turbines.
Otary holds a 70% majority stake in the wind farm, Engie Electrabel holds 17.5% and Eneco 12.5%.
