Norwegian energy giant Equinor and a Shell/EDF Renewables joint venture have filed bids in the 1.1GW New Jersey offshore wind solicitation.
The companies both confirmed their participation to reNEWS and join Danish developer Orsted as the competitors for capacity in the tender, the results of which are due in the spring.
Equinor has bid into the round with its Boardwalk Wind project off the New Jersey coast.
Shell and EDF Renewables meanwhile are participating with their newly-acquired up to 2.5GW Atlantic Shores project, which is located off Atlantic City.
The call was issued in September for 1.1GW of offshore wind, with Orsted already having confirmed a bid for its 2GW-plus Ocean Wind project off the coast of Atlantic City on the US east coast.
New Jersey Board of Public Utilities president Joseph Fiordaliso said: “The board is extremely excited to receive these solicitations. New Jersey has regained its place as a leader when it comes to clean, renewable energy and offshore wind power is a major component in taking us there.
“We are one giant step closer to fulfilling Governor Phil Murphy’s vision of 3500MW of offshore wind power by 2030.”
The board added that it has appointed an unnamed economic consultant to assist with the evaluation of the bids.
