French marine consultancy Creocean is set to deploy a buoy to gather preliminary data on the 24MW EolMed floating wind farm in the Mediterranean.
The company will install a WatchKeeper buoy supplied by Canadian manufacturer Axys Technologies over the next year at the site near Gruissan in southeastern France.
The buoy will gather preliminary environmental data including wind speed and direction, air temperature, relative humidity, barometric pressure and directional waves to support future design and financing decisions, Axys said.
A group led by local developer Quadran aims to build the pilot floating wind farm by 2020 using 6.2M152 Senvion turbines.
It secured government support last July following the country’s first tender for the technology.
