German utility Eon has joined Engie and EDPR for a joint bid for the rights to develop the up to 600MW Dunkirk offshore wind zone off northern France.
The ‘Dunkerque Eoliennes en Mer’ consortium, originally established by the French and Portuguese developers, said it is “forging close ties” with all local stakeholders for the project.
EDPR ehief operating officer Spyridon Martinis said the German company’s involvement “reinforces the technical excellence” of the bid.
“Together, Engie, EDPR and Eon want to make the project a strong symbol of Dunkirk’s energy transition, developed with all the region’s players,” added the consortium.
“Eon is pleased to bring the Dunkerque Eoliennes en Mer consortium nearly 20 years of experience in offshore wind in four European countries, said the German outfit’s chief operation officer Sven Utermohlen.
“Our international experience in this field is an asset for this major project.”
Nine other bidders, including a slew of consortiums, are competing for the zone. A winner is due to be announced later this year.
