Norwegian consultancy Norconsult has provided support to Equinor for its Empire and Beacon wind offshore wind farms off New York.
Norconsult’s Kjeller Vindteknikk division has worked on meteorological simulations, estimates of energy production and wake loss calculations.
In addition, the company has contributed with the validation of measurements on the Empire Wind project.
“This is a huge project, which is very exciting to participate in,” said Lars Tallhaug, head of the engineering department at Kjeller Vindteknikk.
“That Equinor chooses Norconsult for such a prestigious project is a solid confirmation of our expertise, and something we are very proud of. This shows that even a player from little Norway can assert itself in the world market for offshore wind.”
Together, the two wind farms cover more than 840 square miles off the coast of New York State. When completed, they will produce 3.3GW of clean electricity.
