Estonia has refused to grant licences to develop the Saare 7 offshore wind area after an unsuccessful auction process.
The country’s Consumer Protection and Technical Regulatory Authority (CPTRA) said neither of the companies submitting a competing superficies licence application fulfilled the requirements for participation in the auction.
CPTRA said it intends to refuse to initiate the superficies licence proceedings in respect of all the competing applications in the Saare 7 sea area.
The authority said it is not yet known whether there will be a new auction in the Saare 7 area, as it depends on the interest of the developers.
A new application for a superficies licence would need to be submitted to the CPTRA in order to establish an offshore wind farm in the Saare 7 area, which covers approximately 158.9 square kilometres.
Two applicants were competing for the area in June – Sunly Wind OÜ and OÜ Utilitas Wind.
