The European Commission has approved joint acquisition of nine offshore wind farms from the UK Green Investment Bank (GIB) by Macquarie Group and the Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS).
The commission said that the proposed transaction would “raise no competition concerns as there are very minor overlaps between the companies’ activities”.
USS is a corporate trustee responsible for managing a UK private sector pension scheme for staff in UK universities and other higher education and research institutions.
The commission said the transaction was examined under the simplified merger review procedure.
Macquarie Group has secured the acquisition of the UK’s Green Investment Bank in a £2.3bn deal.
