The US government is holding a meeting on 28 September to gain public input for an environmental assessment of the 21MW Project Icebreaker wind demo planned for eight to 10 miles offshore in Lake Erie.
The meeting, which is being organised by the Department of Energy (DoE), US Army Corps of Engineers and US Coast Guard, will be held at the Lakewood Park – Woman’s Club Pavilion in Lakewood, Ohio between 4.00pm and 7.00pm.
Federal agency representatives will be present to answer questions about the federal National Environmental Policy Act and permitting processes.
Officials from the project developer Lake Erie Energy Development Corporation (Leedco) will also be present to answer questions.
The DoE is proposing to authorize federal funding to Leedco to design, permit, construct and decommission the project, which would be North America’s first freshwater offshore wind farm.
Following the event, the federal agencies will develop the environmental assessment of the project.
Leedco plans to deploy six 3.45MW turbines on the lake, with commissioning scheduled for 2018.
