Finland’s Wärtsilä has been selected to supply engines to GeoSea’s new XL offshore wind construction vessel.
The Orion vessel is being built by Belgian ship owner Dredging International at the Cosco shipyard in China. It will be powered by liquefied natural gas.
The supply of four nine-cylinder propulsion engines, two six-cylinder engines and other propulsion machinery, including thrusters, to the 210-meter-long vessel is scheduled for late 2017.
Orion is expected to to be delivered to its owners in 2018 and will assist in the installation of offshore wind farms around the world, Wärtsilä said.
