Construction has started at the 165MW Belwind 2 offshore wind farm off the coast of Belgium, according to Meewind – one of three investors in the Nobelwind consortium developing the project.
Meewind said the first foundations, manufactured by German fabricator EEW, are expected to arrive at the port of Ostende today.
Meewind has 19.9% stake in Nobelwind, together with Parkwind (41.08%) and Sumitomo Corp (39.02%).
The project reached financial close in October last year, with commissioning scheduled for 2017.
