The first floating platform for Ocean Winds’ EFGL pilot floating offshore wind project has been launched in Marseille, France.
Ocean Winds and Banque des Territoires are behind the 30MW floater project, entitled Les Eoliennes Flottantes du Golfe du Lion (EFGL).
Developed in partnership with Banque des Territoires, EFGL showcases the third-generation WindFloat technology by Principle Power.
Each floater is a 2000-tonne structure, measuring 22 metres high and 80 metres wide.
The EFGL project will feature three Vestas V164 wind turbines, each with a capacity of 10MW.
Teams from Eiffage Metal, Smulders and their subcontractors Geodis, in co-ordination with Ocean Winds, launched the project’s first WindFloat floater on the Fos-sur-Mer industrial site.
The floater (pictured) is now being towed by sea to Port-la-Nouvelle, where teams from Euroports and subcontractor Mammoet, along with Vestas, will work with Ocean Winds to begin the integration of the first turbine.
The other two floaters will follow the same route during May.
The installation of the first wind turbine at sea is scheduled for June off the coast of Leucate and Barcarès.
