Orsted has reached the “steel in the water” milestone on its 704MW Revolution Wind project off the coasts of Connecticut and Massachusetts. The company announced that it has installed the first turbine foundation, a few weeks after a judge rejected a last minute effort to delay the project.
The wind farm will deliver power to Connecticut and Rhode Island.
Rhode Island Governor Dan McKee said that his state is “is all in on building a climate-resilient future, and the progress happening at our first utility-scale offshore wind farm is exciting and encouraging.”
Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont also praised the state’s contribution to the project. “Now, with Revolution Wind gearing up, we will see even more local jobs on the ground at State Pier and soon have more clean energy powering our state’s homes and businesses,” Lamont said, referring to the staging and marshaling port in New London, CT.
Earlier this month, Boscalis’ Bokalift 2 heavy lift vessel appeared arrived at the site.
The project is roughly 15 miles south of Rhode Island and 32 miles southeast of Connecticut, and is expected to go into operation in 2025.
