The first of three platforms for the turbines of the 25MW WindFloat Atlantic floating offshore wind farm off the Portuguese coast has been loaded out at Navantia’s Fene yard in Spain.
Windfloat Atlantic will comprise three MHI Vestas V164-8.4MW turbines installed on the the ballasted triangular, semi-submersible platforms supplied by Principle Power.
Other members of the group developing the project include EDPR and Mitsubishi Corporation.
EDP Innovation chief executive Antonio Vidigal said: “The new installation represents a flagship project in the innovative sector of floating wind energy and will contribute to the development, standardisation and manufacturing improvement of multi-MW modular floating platforms, which is a key objective under the Strategic Energy Technology Plan of the European Commission.”
