Floating wind platform start-up Gazelle Wind Power has raised $15m in its fundraising so far and has now launched a public crowdfunding campaign.
The company has achieved its initial crowdfunding target during the private phase of the campaign bringing the total amount raised to over $15m in less than 12 months.
The crowdfunding campaign is in collaboration with start-up fundraising platform Seedrs.
With the private phase of the crowdfund completed, it is now open to the public, extending the opportunity for additional retail investors to get involved.
Gazell president and founder Jon Salazar said: “We believe that we are on the fast path to accelerate the advancement of offshore wind – but we can’t do it alone.
“We want to allow retail investors an opportunity to join our network of great partners, investors, and supporters.
“In recent weeks, we’ve seen the importance of energy independence, but this transition requires effective collaboration by many forward-thinking individuals worldwide.”
The Gazelle is a new concept that uses the geometry of the mooring to mitigate the extreme forces encountered in floating offshore wind.
Its design results in a lightweight, stable, and durable deep-water floating platform that could offer 30% less cost and less environmental impact than currently deployed platforms, Gazelle claims.
“Gazelle could define the next generation of floating wind turbine generators as a viable solution to unlock the untapped potential of the offshore wind market and accelerate the clean energy transition,” said the company.
