The second phase of the 128MW Formosa 1 offshore wind farm off the coast of Taiwan has begun commercial operation.
The 120MW second phase began operations on 27 December 2019, according to project investor JERA, having commenced construction in June 2018.
The 8MW first phase of Formosa 1 began operation in April 2017.
Since joining the project in February 2019, JERA said it has dispatched engineers to the operating company while acquiring knowledge and experience in the construction of offshore wind power plants.
The Japanese company is a majority shareholder of the 376MW Formosa 2 offshore wind project, due online next year.
JERA said that by participating simultaneously in projects at different stages of development in Taiwan, whose natural conditions are similar to those of Japan, it aims to establish “a foundation for proactively developing large-scale offshore wind power project both in Japan and overseas.”
