Fred Olsen Windcarrier will tackle the installation of 56 MHI Vestas 8MW turbines at Dong Energy’s 448MW Borkum Riffgrund 2 wind farm in the German North Sea.
The company confirmed today it will be responsible for the transportation and installation of the V164 turbines at the project site more than 50km from the Lower Saxony coast.
Installation is expected to commence in the second quarter of 2018 after the Danish developer took a positive final investment decision last week.
Fred Olsen said it had recently completed an upgrade of its jack-up Brave Tern (pictured) to handle the “multi MW” hardware.
“This is our second contract signed with Dong Energy and our first project installing the Vestas 8MW turbines, it is an exciting project and one we are pleased to have won,” said head of commercial and projects Even Larsen.
Borkum Riffgrund 2 will be commissioned in the first half of 2019.
