The University of Western Brittany has completed a fourth site survey for the planned Groix & Belle‐Ile pilot floating wind farm.
The survey, which took place from in late August and early September as part of the APPEAL collaborative research and development project, was coordinated by France Energies Marines.
The data collected within the study includes measurements of environmental parameters as well as the collection of plankton and benthic lifeforms.
The data from the field has been combined with numerical modelling, which will enable the APPEAL project partners to better understand the potential effects of floating wind farms on the functioning of coastal ecosystems.
The latest study follows on from three previous scientific surveys, carried out last year and earlier this year.
A consortium composed of Eolfi, CGN Europe Energy and La Caisse des Depots are developing the floating pilot.
The three-year APPEAL project, which has secured financial support from the French state, is managed by the National Research Agency.
The project brings together 17 academic and private partners, as well as the Fisheries Committee of Morbihan.
