German outfit FRS Windcat has set up a subsidiary in Poland in response to positive political developments towards offshore wind.
FRS Windcat Polska is based in the Oliwa district of Gdansk.
Additionally the office will support FRS Windcat’s efforts to train Polish skippers on its crew transfer vessels (CTVs) operating in the Baltic Sea.
The company’s first German flagged 26-person CTV, Windcat 42, started operations in July in the Baltic Sea, sailing out of Sassnitz/Rugen to the offshore wind farms Arkona Becken Sudost and Wikinger.
The 23-metre vessel’s new hull shape improves on performance, comfort and efficiency compared with vessel designs currently used in the industry, the company said. It can reach a top speed of 31 knots using two 720kW engines.
A second vessel of this type will be operational by the end of the year.
