Fugro has completed the burial of export cables for the 600MW Gemini offshore wind farm off the Netherlands coast.
The UK company was awarded the contract by Van Oord in April and mobilised one of its two Q1400 trenching spreads onto Van Oord’s support vessel Jan Steen to carry out the cable burial.
The work consisted of burying the deeper water sections of two export cables and one connector cable – between the offshore substations.
In total, a combined length of 140km was buried at a depth below the seabed of 1.5 metres.
Fugro said jetting burial was conducted in seabed conditions consisting mainly of sands with occasional occurrence of harder materials.
Van Oord has subsequently added inter array cable burial to the job, which will see the spread retained onboard the Jan Steen into the first quarter of 2016.
Fugro project manager Glenn Munachen said: “Successful completion of this export cable burial reinforces the capability of the trencher on long distance jetting projects as well as its ability to perform projects in harder ground utilising the Q1400 jetting skid.”
