Fugro and local company International Ocean Vessel Technical Consultant (IOVTEC) have been awarded a contract to jointly carry out geotechnical site investigations at the 1044MW Hai Long 2&3 offshore wind farm sites off Taiwan.
The work will be carried out by DP vessel Avatar Triumph (pictured) and geotechnical vessel Fugro Voyager.
IOVTEC said the surveys will help clients make informed decisions about the projects through the data acquired onsite.
IOVTEC managing director Vincent Tsai said: “We’re delighted Hai Long has chosen IOVTEC for this landmark project, and it also demonstrates their commitment to localisation.
“By utilising our in-country vessels and engineers and leveraging Fugro’s vast experience in geotechnical fields, we are able to provide an optimised local solution to the clients.
“We will continue to support the development of the Taiwanese market, training Taiwanese surveyors to deliver future projects.”
Hai Long Offshore Wind Project EPCI director Felipe Montero said: “It’s a great pleasure for us to have awarded this contract to IOVTEC, to support us with the geotechnical surveys required for the development of the Hai Long projects.
“This also allows us to continue and increase our engagement with Taiwanese suppliers, underlining our commitment with the development of the local supply chain.
“Taiwan has very ambitious plans for deploying offshore wind and for developing the local supply chain and we’re delighted to be a key contributor to these plans.”
The 300MW Hai Long 2A project is due online in 2024, with the 744 Hai Long 2B and 3 expected to be operational the following year.
Northland Power and Yushan are developing the projects.
