Siemens has lined up UK engineer Manor Renewable Energy to provide a range of turbine support services during construction of RWE’s 336MW Galloper wind farm off Suffolk.
Dorset-based Manor will get to work immediately supplying personnel, vessels and generators for lead developer Innogy’s 56-unit project, the German manufacturer said.
The deal was first reported exclusively in subscriber-only newsletter reNEWS.
All crew and technicians will be recruited from the area around pre-assembly port Great Yarmouth on the coast of Norfolk east of Norwich as part of the deal.
In addition, the generators that will provide the Siemens 6MW turbines with temporary power will be manufactured in Staffordshire and Dorset.
A new service vessel named MRE Venture will be deployed after launching from Manor Marine shipyard in Dorset.
MRE director Eric Briar said the company will use knowhow at Galloper gained from previous German and UK offshore wind projects.
“(The contract) allows us to fulfil all three elements of a temporary power solution – our people, our modular temporary power pods and for the first time our vessel. It’s a totally British solution,” he added.
Siemens said the agreement is “critical to the delivery” of the wind farm. Procurement manager Christoph Schott added the contract brings the project’s percentage of UK content “to a new level”.
